Sue McMillan graduated from Howard High School and the Mount Vernon Business School.  Her first job after school was an accounting position.   She later graduated from real estate school and became a licensed realtor.  For many years she was a stay at home mom.  When her daughter entered middle school, Sue decided to re-enter the work force.  In 1971 she was hired by Country Court Nursing Center and began a career in senior wellness that has spanned 39 wonderful years.  In 1986, she accepted a promotion as the Manager of the Living Center.

Sue has attended seminars sponsored by the Ohio Health Care Association and gerontology classes at The Ohio State University.  She feels blessed for the opportunity to serve our area’s seniors and will be forever grateful to the Levering Family for making this possible.

Sue and her husband, John, reside in Mount Vernon. They are the parents of one daughter, Melanie McMillan, who resides in the Litchfield Hills of Connecticut.

Janet Austin, LPN

Janet Austin graduated from the Coshocton County Career Center.  She attended Central Ohio Technical College in Newark and completed her LPN training in 1993 from the Knox County Career Center.  She began employment with Country Court Nursing Center in 1995.  The role of wellness nurse was launched in 2005.

As the wellness nurse, Janet conducts “on-site wellness and support services” to The Living Center residents in the spirit of aging gracefully, successfully and within the mission of the organization.

Janet loves every minute she gets to spend at The Living Center working with all the kind and interesting people.  The residents lovingly refer to her as "Nurse Janet.”  Janet also offers private duty primary nursing care service on an individual basis. 

Janet and her husband, Jerry, reside near Coshocton where they raise English Mastiffs and Bloodhounds.  Jerry is also a nurse, their son, Dustin, is working on his RN and Doctorate in Pharmacy Degree and their daughtr-in-law, Erin Austin, is working on her LPN Degree.

Joseph D. Levering, Business Office Manager

Joe grew up in Fredericktown and graduated from Fredericktown High School in 2003. Joe attended Ashland University, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic Media Productions in 2007. In 2008, Joe began supervising the daily operations of the Business Office at The Living Center. His responsibilities in the Business Office include financial and operational duties. Joe enjoys following the Ohio State University and Cleveland Brown football programs.

Peggi Springer, Program-Community Outreach Director

Peggi Springer designs and implements an activities/recreation/community outreach calendar for the residents at The Living Center.  A sampling of the events she organizes each year include a volunteer recognition luncheon, holiday open house, Mother’s Day buffet, Christmas high tea, Ohio Junior Miss reception, flower show, Chinese themed party and Oktoberfest.  In addition, she is the queen mum of the Sassie Lassie Red Hatters and the director of the Joy Notes rhythm band.

Peggi graduated from Mount Vernon high school.  She received her activity professionals certification from Marion Technical College.  She has attended numerous activity professionals seminars.  She is an accomplished pianist and composer and has performed at weddings, school graduations, parties and other events.   Her cooking and baking talents have won her various awards and recognition throughout Knox County.

Peggi feels that her love for the seniors is her greatest gift and making them feel special is a top priority.  She has found that through her music she has been able to touch many lives.

Peggi resides in Mount Vernon and is the mother of four children:  Stephanee Stump of Indiana, Sam Springer and Erick Springer, both of Mount Vernon, and Jeff Springer of Columbus.  She has ten grandchildren.

Shannon M. Levering, Activities Assistant

Shannon graduated from Ashland High School in 2001 and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Ashland University in 2005. Shannon has worked as the Activities Assistant at The Living Center since 2008 and enjoys planning and coordinating a variety of fun activities for the residents. Shannon married Billy Levering on July 14, 2007. They have a son, Trey and reside in Fredericktown.
